OK ... so what exactly
does “Pound The Rock” mean?
It’s a mindset. It’s a state of being. It’s a reminder
that no matter what stands in our way that we will persevere
and overcome. It means that we will give it our all
no matter what the circumstances and that come what
may, we will prevail. We will never quit, never give
in.
I took this as our program mantra after seeing the
movie Pale Rider. The scene that inspired it was the
scene in which there was a giant rock in the middle
of the stream that the gold prospectors were panning.
Hull Barret, one of the unlucky (to this point) prospectors,
was convinced that under that massive stone blocking
the stream was a huge chunk of gold just waiting to
be found. He didn’t blow up the rock as it would have
ruined the stream for everyone else. Instead, he decided
to work it each day with relentless patience, hitting
it with a sledge hammer every day. After some adversity
created by the large gold mining operation downstream
who wanted the small prospecting camp removed, the entire
camp grabbed a sledge hammer and they all worked the
massive stone. Finally, after all of that toil, and
all of that teamwork, the rock gave way.
Under it? A massive chunk of gold just as Barret thought
there was.
This is our identity. We are not the biggest, not
the strongest. We do have heart, determination, desire.
We won’t quit. We will be relentless. We will continue,
no matter what the circumstances are to POUND THE ROCK,
knowing that in the end, we will be victorious!
