Continued success: The Red Devils again are highly-rated and expected to reach the playoffs for the seventh straight year and 16th time in 17 seasons. The 2016 team achieved their first West Suburban Silver title and first undefeated regular season since 2004 but lost its playoff opener. "Success has motivated the program to compete for a conference championship year in and year out. The early playoff loss left a bad taste for all of the underclassmen and they have used that as motivation," Hartman said.

Offensive trio: Bjorson, Skokna and Oakey helped the 2016 offense average 29.2 points with at least 21 every game. Already committed to Indiana, Bjorson had 325 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns as a tight end and was named all-conference. Skokna rushed for 1,078 yards and 16 touchdowns. Oakey led receivers with 439 yards and 5 TDs and had 296 rushing yards with 3 TDs. The third-year receiver has offers from Army and Air Force. "[Skokna and Oakey] are expected to be two valuable big-play threats on the offensive side," Hartman said. Senior Connor Bauer or junior Matt Rush will replace graduated quarterback Josh Bean (1,462 passing yards, 13 TDs). "He is a player that can play multiple positions. He can catch the ball, run with it and block, which makes him very valuable to the team," Hartman said.

Holding the line: The only returning defensive starters are linebackers Nik Andrejevic, second in 2016 with 56 tackles, and Aiden Cruikshank (15 tackles), and defensive back Nick Biancalana (38 tackles). Junior Roy Fuller and seniors Sean Stanton and Kevin Qin hope to lead inexperienced lines on both sides. "The development of our young linemen [is a key to success]," Hartman said.
