Week 7: Scouting the West Suburban (2017)

2 minute read

Daily Herald report

Hinsdale Central (5-1, 4-0) at Glenbard West (5-1, 3-0) West Suburban Silver

Game time: 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Last week: Hinsdale Central 49, Proviso West 0; Glenbard West 35, Lyons Twp. 3.

Last year: Hinsdale Central 31, Glenbard West 30, overtime.

Outlook: Glenbard West avenged one of its Silver losses from last season. Now the Hilltoppers aim to avenge the other. Evidenced throughout the season, offense hasn't been an issue for the Hilltoppers. Not with running backs Tyquan Cox, who last week rushed for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns, Ryan Diver and Dre Thomas. And a passing threat like receiver Alec Pierce, who had a touchdown catch and an interception against Lyons. It's the defense that was especially impressive last week. The return from injury of lineman Marky Winters and linebacker Dan Howard has been a huge boost, and the lineup continues to get healthier. They'll need to be at their best again to stop Hinsdale Central's three-headed offensive threat of running back Luke Skokna, athlete Garrett Oakey and Indiana-bound tight end Matt Bjorson. Like Glenbard West, the Red Devils' defense, led by junior linebacker Aidan Cruickshank, has multiple sophomore contributors.

Next week: Lyons Twp. at Hinsdale Central; Glenbard West at Oak Park.
