Pioneer Press Week 8 football roundup

Hinsdale Central 21, Lyons 20

Hinsdale Central only attempted five passes Friday night against Lyons, and according to offensive lineman Sean Stanton, that is what his unit prefers.

The Red Devils (6-2, 5-1 West Suburban Silver) churned out 232 yards rushing and earned a key conference victory in Hinsdale.

"It is really fun when (the coaches) just give us constant run plays," said Stanton, who lives in Clarendon Hills. "I do not think we threw the ball many times.

"We just have an athletic team this year, an athletic offensive line. They know that we can do it (run). We do not have to sit back and pass-protect and take plays off."

Hinsdale Central survived a frantic finish after taking a 21-14 lead with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Lyons responded with a drive that culminated in a Bryce Moskiewicz 3-yard scoring run, but a failed two-point conversion left the score 21-20 in favor of Hinsdale Central.

Lyons (6-2, 3-2 WSC Silver) recovered the ensuing onside kick but failed to gain a first down on four attempts.

Luke Skokna rushed for 176 yards and all three touchdowns on 35 carries for the Red Devils.
