Football: Here is the Suburban Life All-Area team (2017)

Gabe Berta, Lemont, senior, defensive back: Two-year starter at free safety and Class 5A All-State pick had 81 tackles, eight for loss and four interceptions through 11 games.

Matt Bjorson, Hinsdale Central, senior, tight end: Indiana recruit was the West Suburban Silver Offensive Player of the Year and a Class 8A All-State pick. Bjorson had 25 catches for 411 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ben Bryant, Lyons Township, senior, quarterback: Cincinnati recruit and three-year starter was a Class 8A All-State selection. Bryant threw for 1,685 yards and 18 touchdowns during the regular season.

Kevin Cooke, IC Catholic, sophomore, linebacker: Cook has 151 tackles, two sacks and an interception and 125 receiving yards through 12 games for 3A finalist Knights.

Aidan Cruickshank, Hinsdale Central, senior, linebacker: Broke single-season school record for tackles (131 in just nine games) that had stood since 1990.

Nick D'Ambra, Glenbard South, senior, linebacker: Class 6A All-State linebacker for Raiders.

Lazerick Eatman, IC Catholic Prep, senior, running back: Electric in the open field, Eatman has rushed for 1,277 yards and 19 touchdowns, and has 17 catches for 458 yards and nine TDs for Class 3A finalists.

Jack Jessen, Willowbrook, senior, running back: Class 6A All-State pick is an All-American wrestler committed to Northwestern. Jessen ran for 2,050 yards and 24 touchdowns and led Willowbrook, West Suburban Gold champs for first time and 6A quarterfinalists, in tackles.

Isaiah Lee, Nazareth, senior, defensive lineman: Iowa State recruit was MVP of Defensive Linemen in the East Suburban Catholic. Through 12 games Lee had 57 tackles, 26 of them solos, and 15 tackles for loss.

Wesley Lones, Nazareth, senior, linebacker: The East Suburban Catholic defensive MVP and a Class 6A All-State selection. Through 12 games Lones had a team-best 95 tackles with 12 tackles for loss for 6A finalists.

Dylan Packer, IC Catholic Prep, senior, offensive lineman: Three-year starter is a Class 3A All-State pick for the defending champion Knights. Two-way starter at right guard and also as a pass-rushing defensive end.

Devin Petersen, Benet, senior, linebacker: Two-year starter at middle linebacker led Benet with 151 tackles through 11 games. Petersen also had two sacks and forced four fumbles.

Alec Pierce, Glenbard West, senior, wide receiver: Two-time All-State selection holds offers from Western Michigan, Cincinnati and New Mexico.

Connor Reid, Benet, defensive back: Class 7A All-State selection had nine interceptions for the 7A semifinalist Redwings. He also had 77 tackles at strong safety.

Sam Singleton, Wheaton North, senior, running back: Unanimous all-DVC selection and Offensive MVP ran for 1,641 yards with 18 rushing touchdowns.

Gavin Smith, Nazareth, senior, offensive lineman: Offensive Line MVP in the East Suburban Catholic for the 6A finalists.

Jalen Slater, Montini, senior, defensive lineman: Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Chicago Catholic Green. All-State selection and two-way starter Had 91 total tackles, 16 for loss, with nine sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Destin Talbert, Hinsdale South, senior, wide receiver: The West Suburban Gold Offensive Player of the Year. Talbert had 60 catches for 1,180 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Dre Thomas, Glenbard West, senior, running back: Thomas ran for over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns for West Suburban Silver champs.

Sergio Villalobos, Downers Grove South, senior, defensive lineman: West Suburban Gold Defensive Player of the Year and a Class 8A All-State pick. Villalobos had 94 total tackles, 15 sacks, 22 knockdowns, 36 tackles for loss and forced three fumbles.
