Hinsdale Central pulls away from Downers Grove South in second half

DOWNERS GROVE – Luke Skokna helped provide a quick start for Hinsdale Central's football team against Downers Grove South on Sept. 2.

Later, the sophomore helped provide some breathing room in the Red Devils' 26-7 win against the Mustangs.

Skokna took the opening kickoff down to South's 14-yard line and scored two plays later for a 7-0 lead. South (0-2) crept withint 10-7 midway through the second quarter and was still down just three heading into the fourth quarter before Skokna scored on a 13-yard run in the fourth for a 17-7 lead.

Brian McCarty's safety and Garrett Oakey's touchdown run capped the scoring.

Both teams play rivalry games on Sept. 9. The Red Devils travel to Downers Grove North for the Old Oaken Bucket game at 7:30 p.m. while the Mustangs will face visiting Hinsdale South for the Rebel Cannon at 7:30.
