Matt Bobak was expecting to have more catches than rushing attempts this season, but he’s embraced the change of plans.
When the Red Devils’ primary running back, senior Luke Skokna, was injured in a season-opening victory against Naperville Central, Bobak seamlessly pivoted from slot back to running back.
He’s produced consistently through the season’s first five weeks. He helped Hinsdale Central defeat York 35-13 on Saturday in the homecoming game in Hinsdale.
Bobak has 497 yards on 116 carries so far for the Red Devils (4-1, 3-0 West Suburban Silver).
“As soon as Luke went down, coach (Todd) Koehler, our running backs coach, he was hyping me up and told me to get in there and run hard,” Bobak said. “I was taking reps during the summer, so I understood the plays.”
