As the playoffs approach, many senior football players begin to reflect on their time on the gridiron.
For Hinsdale Central starters Lucas Schwartz and Mitchell Anderson, that story starts with their time on the freshman B team.
“Freshman year was pretty rough,” said Schwartz, now a standout defensive end. “I may have come in cocky, and I should have worked harder. But after that experience, I made it my goal to get to varsity.”
The added motivation worked, and Schwartz made his varsity debut at the end of his sophomore season. Now in his second year as a starter, Schwartz has been one of the Red Devils’ top defenders. Before Hinsdale Central defeated Lyons 24-6 on Friday, he had the fourth-most tackles on the team.
The Red Devils (8-1, 5-1 West Suburban Silver) enter the playoffs with confidence. They have reached the postseason nine seasons in a row.
