It appears the excitement over the longtime football rivalry between Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township high schools is in the DNA of the Zaheer family of Oak Brook.
Riz Zaheer, a Central senior who has been in the marching band since his freshman year, heard about it often heading into high school.
“My dad is a Central grad, and I know there’s a lot of history and tradition with this rivalry,” Riz said Friday, shortly before the Red Devils hosted LT. “It gets really rowdy at school the week before this game, but not in a bad way. The energy just really picks up. I’ll miss that energy after I graduate.”
Riz’s father, Amir, a 1984 Central graduate, believes the schools being only by about 4 miles apart adds to the rivalry.
“The proximity and everyone growing up with it,” Amir said.
