No. 12 Hinsdale Central scored five times during a 10-minute span in the second quarter and cruised to a 41-20 win over York Friday in Elmhurst.
Hinsdale Central quarterback John Whitelaw (7-of-11, 186 yards; 20 carries, 186 yards) threw for one touchdown an ran for two more. Jake Knowles, David Lutz and James Maillet each scored on the ground for the Red Devils (6-2, 4-1 West Suburban Silver).
"Their offense was doing a good job of eating the clock and pounding the ball [in the first quarter]," Whitelaw said. "Our defense came up big for the second week in a row. They gave us opportunities even when we didn’t give ourselves opportunities."
Mike DeBernardis (25 carries, 116 yards) scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter for York (3-5, 2-4). Sam Cleary found Evan Fendley from 17 yards out in the third quarter and Ryan Kent scored on a 55-yard run with 24 seconds remaining.
"We have the offense to put up some big numbers," Whitelaw said. "It’s just a matter of us not shooting ourselves in the foot."
