8A: Hinsdale Central 46, Downers South 12

There was only one time when Hinsdale Central's Red Devils found themselves in danger during their Class 8A first-round playoff game Friday night in Downers Grove.

Host Downers Grove South (7-3) moved the ball down to the Hinsdale 4-yard line on the contest's opening drive. On first-and-goal, Downers South running back Scottie Williams (10 carries, 44 yards rushing, 1 TD) was stood up by the Red Devil defenders one yard behind the line of scrimmage.

That's when Eric Alexander took advantage of the situation.

The outside linebacker pulled the ball out of Williams' arms and ran it 95 yards for a stunning touchdown that helped launch the visitors to a 46-12 triumph.
