Backup QB Jacob White led a ground assault to shut down York in a 30-7 rout after starting QB Chase Hamilton left early with an ankle injury.
Hinsdale Central 30, York 7
After senior starting QB Chase Hamilton went down with an ankle injury for No. 23 Hinsdale Central midway through the first quarter, senior backup Jacob White took the reins for the Red Devils (2-1, 1-0 West Suburban Silver) and delivered a consistent running attack against the Dukes (2-1, 0-1).
After the Dukes cut the Red Devils’ lead to 14-7 in the third, White responded with a 68-yard TD run to give the Devils a 21-7 lead and stamp out any possible comeback by the Dukes.
White was very consistent from the wildcat, rushing 16 times for 160 yards and controlling the offensive tempo for the Red Devils. He ran for 126 yards in the second half on 10 carries.
BY THE NUMBERS
Before he went down, Hamilton had three carries for 28 yards and a 29-yard TD pass to senior RB Ben Stefani. Stefani had nine carries for 33 yards and a rushing TD in the second half. Senior RB Juwan Edmond had 11 carries for 90 yards and a TD for the Red Devils, as well.
“My thought the whole night was to protect the ball and cut down the turnovers. I believed in our game plan and everyone executed really well.” — White
