Hinsdale Central overcame a lot of adversity in a 28-0 win over Proviso East in a West Suburban Conference crossover on Saturday in Maywood.

The Red Devils (1-1) turned the ball over four times against the Pirates (0-2) and had two touchdowns erased thanks to penalties.

"I don't think we were mentally prepared to play," said Hinsdale Central senior linebacker Pat Foley, who recovered a fumble and returned an interception for a touchdown all in the second half.

"We didn't do a very good job taking care of the ball that's for sure," Hinsdale Central coach Mike DiMatteo said. "We just did not play well. The only good thing that happened is we won the game."

The Red Devils, who turned the ball over three times in the first half, should have been up by more than 14-0 at halftime.
