The reason behind all the injuries to Red Devils QB may be just bad luck

Hinsdale Central’s promising football season was crippled by an alarming number of freak injuries, beginning with starting quarterback Chase Hamilton’s first-game ankle surgery and continuing until 17 Red Devils players spent time on the sideline.

Along the way, fifth-string QB Thomas Ives was used in a Week 6 win over Hinsdale South.

What happened?

That’s what athletic director Dan Jones wanted to know.

Jones, a stickler for details, gathered information from coaches, doctors, trainers and landscapers who keep practice and game fields level. Their conclusions: Bad luck.

“It was one of those unbelievable things,” Jones said. “Hopefully, we never have a stretch like this again.”

The regular season ends at home Friday night with the Old Oaken Bucket game against Downers North. The Red Devils (4-4, 2-3 West Suburban Silver) need a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
