Time Out: Whitelaw's QB career started on home front

Hinsdale Central's John Whitelaw is all about all-out efforts.

Whitelaw has provided so many moments the last two years that he's already setting quarterback records, having guided Hinsdale Central to second place in the state 2008 Class 8A football tournament and being named to an all-state team.

Fans won't forget a late-game Whitelaw effort in the state quarterfinals at Brother Rice when he reversed his field on a broken pass play and followed blocks by David Banasiak and Mick Culligan for a 26-yard gain to set up a game-tying touchdown by Rich Zajeski in an eventual 17-14 overtime victory on David Lutz's 25-yard field goal.

Whitelaw and receiver Alex Kirk teamed two weeks later in Central's 41-21 state-championship loss to Maine South in Champaign where they connected on nine passes for 140 yards and two ...
