It’s been almost three years since Valparaiso University quarterback Ben Nimz arrived on campus.

And the 6-foot-5, 205-pound redshirt sophomore believes there’s something different about VU’s program these days.

“It just feels like we should be winning, and this is another step,” he said. “We’re going to keep getting better and move on from here. We’re confident in ourselves, that they have to beat us. That’s the mindset we have going into games now.”

Results like VU’s win Saturday are the ones driving this newfound belief.

VU (4-2) completed its abbreviated season with a thrilling 20-19 Pioneer Football League win against San Diego at Brown Field.

With the win, VU beat the Toreros for the first time since 2003, finishing the spring with the program’s best winning percentage since that season.
